Volume 23, Number 132, April/May 2020 I Remember by Victoria Biggs
I remember when the smell
of fresh baked bread filled my head...
my tummy would growl in delight.
Or when you baked sweets and special treats...
how I savoured every bite.
When there was a storm you would keep me warm
and show me the sky so bright...
the thunder would crash... the lightening would flash.
You woke me to show me the sight.
You would point out the skies on the morning sunrise
or the sunset that came before night.
I remember the joy of
weiners roasted on fires...
swings on the old tree hung with tires.
Days filled with childhood fun...
looked for crabs at the beach...
Easter Egg hunts... chocolate treats...
swimming till the day was done.
My pony... the dogs... hunting for frogs...
Disneyland trips we took in the sun.
It’s all in my mind... a treasure of kind...
the childhood dreams of everyone.
Now, I am grown... a mother to my own.
There is something I would like to say.
I respect and admire your passion, your fire...
your wonder of life every day.
It is nice you are near me... to guide me... to cheer me...
encouraging me along life’s way.
In my heart... in my memories... in my soul... you stay.
I remember.
